Aspiring Geopark

A Geopark, which drives for national/ international recognition. An aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark has to provide an application dossier to the UNESCO Global Geoparks Secretariat at UNESCO Headquarters for evaluation.

EGN

European Geoparks Network: regional affiliate and the driving force of the GGN, it includes all the GGN members located in Europe. It was established in the year 2000. The main aim of the network is to support its members to bring sustainable territorial development to the geopark by using that territory’s geological heritage, primarily through the development of geotourism. The Network is responsible for the assessment of it’s members operation and services in order to promote the “European Geoparks” label as a high quality brand in Geotourism.

EGN Week

The European Geoparks' Week taking place at late May early June each year, is a European – wide festival of Geoparks aimed at raising public awareness of geoconservation and promotion of the geoheritage as well as events aimed at informing the widest audience about geotouristic and educational activities in the geoparks.

GGN

Global Geoparks Network: founded in 2004, it is is a legally constituted not-for-profit, obligatory umbrella organisation of the UNESCO Global Geoparks with an annual membership fee

GGN Best Practice Award

It is a prestigious reward given every 2 years, which aims to promote, enhance and encourage the development of innovative initiatives inside the Global Geoparks of UNESCO. The award recognises pioneering practices and initiatives that contribute to a more effective and dynamic network, set fantastic exemplars for others to follow and emulate, and create greater public recognition of the UNESCO Global Geoparks.
